The Milwaukee Brewers are hoping to get a nice encore out of Casey McGehee in 2011

28-year old righty swinging 3B Casey McGehee has a true breakout season for the Brewers and they hope it wasn’t a mirage. McGehee played in 157 games for the Brewers last season and he was 174 of 610 (.285 avg, .801 OPS) with 70 runs scored, 23 homers, 104 RBIs and 1 stolen base. McGehee played in 153 games at 3B for the Brewers last season and he had 17 errors while showing slightly below average range. The cool thing about McGehee is that the Brewers got him from the division rival Chicago Cubs for free. I think he will have a solid 2011 season for the Brewers.

40-year old lefty swinging Craig Counsell played in 20 games at 3B last season for the Brewers and he made 3 errors while showing average range. He will give McGehee a break whenever he needs one in 2011.

25-year old lefty swinging Mat Gamel is no longer considered a top prospect. He played in 12 games for the Brewers last season and he was 3 of 15 (.200 avg, .561 OPS) with 1 run scored and 1 RBI. He also played in 96 games in A+AA+AAA-ball last season and he was 109 of 359 (.304 avg, .884 OPS) with 63 runs scored, 14 homers, 74 RBis and 3 stolen bases. He played in 3 games for the Brewers at 3B last season and he didn’t make any errors. If Prince Fielder or Casey McGehee get injured, I look for the Brewers to finally give Gamel a legit chance to show what he can do in the majors.

PROJECTED GRADE FOR THE BREWERS 3B IN 2011: B
